Last week Google announced it would send more $15 billion It represents the company’s largest single investment in Europe to realize its digital ambitions in data centers and digital infrastructure in Finland. Such a massive injection signals Google’s intention to expand beyond the United States to meet growing demand for advanced artificial intelligence systems. Google has built a data center in Hamina, on Finland’s southern coast, in a former paper mill it acquired in 2009.

Notably, the investments announced include investments in existing data centers and the creation of replacement sites for the development of digital infrastructure. In addition, the company will invest money to increase energy capacity, expand the grid and make its products more affordable. The first phase of the expansion plan costs billions of dollars and will enter the Finnish economy and provide 37,000 jobs, about 7,000 of whom will work permanently for Google in Finland. Google has signed power purchase agreements with local wind energy projects, energy storage facilities and nuclear power plants.

Separately, Trump criticized artificial intelligence companies and the public’s concerns about the dangers of artificial intelligence to humanity, in response to calls from large artificial intelligence companies to “slow down” the development of artificial intelligence.
