Valve engineers Pierre-Loup Griffais and Jeff Leinbaugh confirmed that the goals of the project remain unchanged. According to them, the team is evaluating the current status of the component to determine the best time for release. The focus shifts to the quality of user experience and high technical level, rather than the speed of product release.
The global RAM shortage has caused component prices to rise, which has also impacted the cost of the current Steam Deck range. The price of the OLED version with 512 GB hard drive rises to $789 (about 67,000 rubles), compared with the previous price of $549 (about 46,000 rubles). This had a negative impact on sales, so Valve took this market reaction into consideration and was in no rush to release Steam Deck 2 at a high price.
While it continues to develop the new console, the company is actively promoting other hardware products, including the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Information on Steam Deck 2’s release date and final cost will be provided when technical conditions become more favorable.
