Big TVs are no longer just a screen for watching series and TV shows in the evening. Today, they expect cinematic HDR graphics, high-quality built-in audio, a fast and user-friendly interface, full console support and a design that won’t look out of place in their living room. TCL 65C7L SQD-Mini LED This is one of the models that meets all these requirements.
TCL occupies a leading position in the global TV market: according to Omdia data, the company ranks first in the world in shipments of diagonal TVs over 75 inches, Mini LED TVs and TVs based on Google TV. The development of large screen and Mini LED technology remains one of the brand’s key areas.
TCL 65C7L SQD-Mini LED is a 65-inch 4K TV using proprietary SQD-Mini LED technology. This model comes with an HVA 2.0 Pro matrix, Bang & Olufsen audio system, and gaming capabilities up to 4K (144 Hz). Its slogan – “Colors come alive on screen” – is in this case more than a marketing formula: the main focus is on brightness in complex scenes, high-quality color reproduction and precise backlight control. At the same time, TCL is positioning the C7L as a more affordable way to get the features of a high-end TV without upgrading to an older model.
The most important thing is SQD-Mini LED technology
A key feature of the TCL 65C7L is the development of SQD-Mini LED technology – Mini LED backlight. Like the classic Mini LED, this TV does not use a single backlight, but an LED array using a local dimming system that divides the screen backlight into independent parts. The 65-inch version has 1,152 local dimming zones.
What this technique actually means is easily explained using the example of a night scene. When stars are visible in a dark sky and bright lanterns or flames appear in the frame, it’s difficult to maintain both a deep background and expressive light accents with traditional lighting. Local dimming allows you to reduce the brightness in dark areas and increase the brightness where you really need it. The result is deeper blacks, better shadow detail, and less noticeable ghosting around bright objects.
SQD-Mini LED is based on complex technologies including high-power LED, super-focused microlens and short optical path (Micro-OD) technology. All of this should simultaneously improve brightness, backlight uniformity and light control accuracy, and reduce the appearance of halos around bright objects on dark backgrounds. Micro-OD keeps the TV body very thin.
For viewers, this is especially evident in HDR movies, sports broadcasts and games: when dark details, glare, neon lights, flashes or bright sunlight are simultaneously present on the screen, the TV must not only be bright, but also distribute this brightness carefully.
The peak brightness of TCL 65C7L is as high as 3000 cd/m². Instead of watching TV at maximum brightness all the time, HDR content needs to be able to convey expressive light characteristics: sun glare on water, metal reflections, car headlights, flames or starry skies without losing surrounding detail.
Super QLED and UltraColor
The second important component of the TCL 65C7L is the quantum dot-based Super QLED technology, which is used in combination with UltraColor color filters. The manufacturer claims up to 100% coverage of the BT.2020 color space.
The wide coverage is not important in itself, but rather because it gives the image more tones. In nature, the undertones of leaves, water and sky become more pronounced; complex color scenes look more convincing in movies; and in sports – team uniforms, in-game coverage and broadcast details. UltraColor filters reduce color distortion between adjacent hues and provide smoother transitions. This is most noticeable in shots of natural skin tones, landscapes, sports, and scenes with lots of saturated colors.
Image processing using TSR AiPQ
The TV comes with VA matrix HVA 2.0 Pro. TCL lists it as having improved contrast, wider viewing angles, and an anti-glare coating with 0.5% reflectivity. This is useful when the TV is placed in a room with large windows or bright artificial lighting.
The TSR AiPQ processor is responsible for image processing. It uses artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze the content of frames and adjust the image based on the type of content. The manufacturer has identified four areas of system operation: AI clarity master, AI contrast master, AI color master, and AI motion master. They are used to handle detail, contrast, color rendering and dynamic scenes.
Artificial intelligence capabilities are not only applied directly to images. For example, the TV has AI-Cinema and AI-Art modes. The latter allows you to use artificial intelligence to create images in various styles. The TV can also be used to display art in gallery mode.
Game functions and features
In addition to high-quality images, the TCL 65C7L is designed for video game enthusiasts, namely for use with game consoles and PCs. The TV supports 4K resolution with a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. Additionally, the TV supports VRR in the 48 to 288 Hz range. Also announced is support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, which is designed to synchronize the screen update rate with the frame rate of the graphics card.
There’s also an automatic low-latency mode that switches the TV to a gaming profile when you launch a compatible game. To manage game parameters, Game Master Mode and Game Panel are provided. The TV also supports Dolby Vision gaming.
High update rates are crucial when connected to a gaming PC capable of delivering appropriate frames per second. For console gaming, the 144Hz capability already exceeds the maximum frame rates available on most modern consoles, but the frequency headroom may be useful for future consoles and when connected to a PC.
sound and build
The model’s audio system was tuned with the involvement of Bang & Olufsen. The TV adopts 2.2 configuration; announced support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The Beosonic function is provided in the interface, through which you can adjust the sound characteristics.
Therefore, manufacturers focus not only on the characteristics of speakers but also on the ability to adapt the sound to the user’s preferences. At the same time, as with other TVs, the capabilities of built-in speakers don’t negate the advantages of a separate multi-channel system or soundbar when creating a full-blown home theater.
The TCL 65C7L is designed for vertical and wall mounting. The TV has narrow bezels and has a background mode and art gallery mode for displaying pictures and other visual content when the screen is off.
Russian retail price TCL 65C7L SQD-Mini LED The price is 134,999 rubles, but now from September 9 to 28, the TV is on sale for a discounted price of 114,999 rubles.
