US memory maker Micron Technology reaffirms focus on meeting server customer needs announcement 512 GB RDIMM modules are capable of operating in modes up to and including DDR5-9200. These memory modules have been verified by Intel and AMD and will begin mass production in the second half of next year.

In fact, the company announced the new memory modules almost a year before they hit the market, but such precautions are often characteristic of the server world. A dual-processor server with 24 memory slots can accommodate up to 12 TB of DDR5 RAM using similar RDIMMs. Vertical mounting technology using TSV interlayer connections can achieve such high chip placement density on the module.
AMD representatives simply stated that they are validating the compatibility of these memory modules with their server platforms, while Intel has clearly hinted that they will provide support for such memory modules in their next-generation server platforms. According to Micron, increasing the amount of information stored directly in RAM can reduce power consumption by 60% compared to four 128 GB modules nominally forming the same total memory capacity.
For data analysis tasks using Spark SVM, 512 GB RDIMM can provide up to 1.4x performance improvement compared to configurations built on 256 GB memory modules. Larger memory modules can also improve processing efficiency when using RocksDB and Redis databases.
