Facing the increasingly fierce competition and rapid development of artificial intelligence systems, not only Western developers such as Nvidia and AMD, but also China’s Huawei Technology Company are also preparing to accelerate the release of new models of AI chips. Next year, it will launch two new models of AI accelerators in the Ascend series.

This is known from the recent statement of David Wang, the successor chairman of Huawei Technologies: Report Reuters. Ascend 960T will be launched in the first quarter, and Ascend 960PR will be available in the third quarter of 2027. The Chinese giant is also focused on developing technology that makes it possible for single accelerators to be efficiently combined into large computing clusters. UnifiedBus aims to simplify this task, and Huawei now has 11 component models supporting this proprietary interface. The largest “super cluster” based on Huawei accelerators can combine up to 1 million AI chips.

At the same time, more than 1,000 smaller “super nodes” have been shipped to Huawei customers, and the number of buyers of such server systems has exceeded 370. The chairman of Huawei’s board of directors did not provide details about the technical characteristics of such systems or the names of individual buyers. Chinese developers have long focused on expanding cluster accelerators because they have been unable to effectively increase the productivity of single accelerators under Western sanctions. Such limitations are partially compensated for by a wide range of ways to extend computing capabilities. In terms of software ecosystem, Huawei Accelerator is supported by 5,270 monthly active developers, a company representative noted. It was previously reported that a shortage of HBM memory forced Huawei to increase the price of its Ascend accelerator by 60%. In addition to the Chinese domestic market, the company is also preparing to supply artificial intelligence accelerators to South Korea and Egypt.
