Xbox console owners believe Blizzard developers almost completely ignored the console at BlizzCon. At the same time, many of them have been waiting for a long time for the studio’s projects on Xbox Series X|S, and those expectations were especially heightened in 2023, when Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard alongside Blizzard.
Journalist Jez Corden posted about Windows Centerwho cited answers from developers of three Blizzard games to questions about potentially releasing the projects on consoles.
Warcraft 3
Project manager Brad Chan, when asked about the possibility of the game being released on the Xbox console, responded with the following: Answer:
You know, we’re going to talk about this. Maybe, maybe not, I don’t know. There are many possibilities, but right now we’re focused on PC.
That said, Chen directly stated that a console version of Warcraft 3 is being discussed, but there are no concrete plans yet.
world of warcraft
World of Warcraft: Forever game director Ion Hazzikostas responded to the question why the developer added support for Xbox gamepads on PC:
Our focus remains on PC. This isn’t just about Xbox, it’s about gaming controllers as a whole. Correct? Over the years we’ve seen countless players use mods like the console port and go through many hoops to make World of Warcraft playable on a controller. We want to make things easier.
Hazzikostas then separately answered questions about potential console releases:
Our focus remains [на PC]but there are many possibilities in the future, we will wait and see.
At the same time, Hazzikostas stressed that Classic and Forever are better suited for Xbox because combat is slower-paced and more cautious.
heroes of the storm
When asked about porting Heroes of the Storm to Xbox, other consoles, or mobile devices, lead game developer James Yen responded:
We’re looking at all the possible directions it can go in [Heroes of the Storm]but now this distracts us from the main thing. We just got back, so we want to make sure we take care of the players that have been with us and continue to create content for them.
[…] We have long-term goals, but, you know, it’s more like the stars. Our star’s initial thought was, “Hey, let’s bring the game back.” Blizzcon was the perfect time to do that, but we’re moving on and thinking about other things. But now the focus is: “Let’s give the players something.”
Note that players can already play World of Warcraft: Forever on Xbox, but currently only on the ROG Xbox Ally X portable device.
