NASA accidentally hits Mars with fragments of lander and receives unexpected data about its soil


In space exploration, even failed equipment can provide scientific benefits. This has happened recently when rocket fragments fell to the moon, earlier while studying dust on the solar panels of a Mars vehicle, and now in a new work exploiting an unexpected bombardment of Mars by the 2021 Perseverance rover as it delivered fragments of the lander.
