The popular zombie survival game Project Zomboid has received a modification called Project A-Life that radically changes the gameplay, turning a desolate post-apocalyptic world into a full-blown real-time simulation.
The author was inspired by the famous A-Life system in the game series stalker: Artificial intelligence controls the behavior of NPCs and factions across the map, forcing them to travel between cities, set up ambushes, patrol areas and pursue their goals even when the player is not around.
This modification is available in the Steam Workshop and is fully compatible with the current build 42. The project includes 105 sandbox settings, with AI-controlled survivors capable of acting in unison as part of a squad (calling for reinforcements, providing medical aid, conducting suppressive fire and storming buildings), remembering previous encounters, and even returning for revenge. Despite its early state, the mod can be installed on existing saves, and the creators promise to actively release fixes and develop the project with the community.
