In early September, Microsoft released the security patch KB5124008 for computers running Windows 11 25H2 and 24H2, but practice has shown that in some cases, installing the patch can destroy the function of the microphone and prevent the PC from playing sound. As it turns out, the issue won’t be fixed by official Microsoft tools until mid-October.

In September, the company released two security updates, KB5124008 and KB5129195, aimed at fixing RDP connection issues when running applications such as Claude Cowork and accessing shared folders in Linux virtual machines used by such applications. These issues have been addressed with cumulative update KB5129195 released this month.
However, the above update still does not fully resolve the sound subsystem outage issue, and in an enterprise environment, it can cause problems when users log in to resources located in the domain. Microsoft did not specify what percentage of users suffered from sound loss while using their computers. In Installation Manager, the affected audio subsystem is indicated by the error “The device cannot start (code 10)”. If there is no such notification but still cannot increase the volume from zero, then the user will have to deal with the consequences of this bug in Microsoft’s code.
Initially, the company claimed that only USB devices used for audio playback were affected by the bug, but other users also complained about the issue. Microsoft’s September security update created a number of issues for PC users with AMD GPUs. They experienced “black screens,” lost connection to the monitor, and system freezes without even launching the game. The issue has been discovered by users of Radeon RX 6600, RX 7700 XT, RX 7800 XT, RX 7900 GRE, RX 7900 XTX, and RX 9070 XT graphics cards. Switching to an older version of the driver does not resolve the issue, but rolling back the September operating system update does. The KB5129195 package doesn’t fix it either.
