It’s also part of various layoffs and moves Microsoft is taking across its video game division edge of the worlda team that has been working on the Age of Empires series for years, this is pretty much halved and may have also suffered new game cancellations.
Regarding the first news, there are several testimonies, and the fact that the team is one of the ones that have undergone drastic changes further proves it: apparently, there have been many layoffs within World’s Edge, perhaps along with Halo Studios being one of the most affected.
As we’ve seen, following Xbox’s recent reorganization, a further 268 layoffs were included in the layoffs already announced last summer: many of them seem to be happening at Halo Studios, but some are also happening at World’s Edge.
A project seems to have been cancelled: is this a new chapter?
Among those who were fired Adam Isgreen, Creative Director Team and member of the Age of Empires series, he informed us of the event in a message on LinkedIn, celebrating 16 years at Microsoft and thanking fans and colleagues in a post that was, however, clearly sad and painful.
In a lengthy introduction in which he recalled all the great things he’s done at Microsoft, he reported: “Obviously, I’m disappointed that my adventures in World’s Edge and Age, and those of the many talented teammates involved in this situation, ended in this way – we had Big plans for the future – I hope the remaining teams can handle this situation in the future. ”

The edge of the world is Moved into Activision We don’t know exactly what it will involve: support currently continues for the various chapters of the series, especially Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Empires IV, which continue to receive a wealth of content and updates, also thanks to the work of modders and community members directly involved in the creation of the DLC.
Isgren’s reference to “big plans for the future” could be referring to a new game, perhaps another chapter in the Age of Empires series, given that software engineer Andrew Martz was among those he fired, and he mentioned the game more directly in his LinkedIn greeting. “New project” apparently canceled due to team relocation.
The idea is that the Age of Empires or Mythic series, which was recently relaunched with Age of Mythology: Retelling, is getting big news, although those news are more likely to be expansions to the series than new chapters. We’re currently waiting to see what the studio will be working on under Activision’s direction.
