The gaming industry has once again erupted into a massive controversy over publishing prices and development economic models. BULKHEAD studio head and Wardogs creator Joe Brammer has publicly stated that there is a serious lack of real value in today’s video games and that Rockstar missed the opportunity to be a trendsetter by raising the price bar for the long-awaited GTA 6.
He believes that the reason for the continued financial problems is that production costs have increased rapidly while the price of the final product has remained unchanged.
This stance has sparked a backlash from the community in the context of a recent statement from Double Fine founder Tim Schafer, who admitted that he no longer understands the current economics of making games and framed the problem as corporate greed. Experts point out that while major giants like Nintendo and Take-Two can afford the $80 price tag, raising the cost may be an unbearable risk for most mid-sized studios due to declining consumer demand.
