Beyond Good and Evil 2 Another reminder of its existence, although Ubisoft still isn’t ready to reveal any specific details about the project. This time, indirect confirmation came from Rick Godwin, deputy director of Ubisoft’s Bordeaux Story Department. The developer said he has been involved in the creation of the highly anticipated game over the past few months as an advisor and support staff member. So, despite years of silence, work on Beyond Good and Evil 2 will continue in 2026.
At the same time, Godwin’s statement cannot be called a sweeping announcement or a new status for the project. Ubisoft. The developer specifically noted that he had permission to speak publicly about his work on the game, but did not reveal anything else. Therefore, it’s unclear exactly what aspects of Beyond Good and Evil 2 he’s responsible for and how production is progressing recently.

Godwin joins Ubisoft in November 2023, having previously been involved in Assassin’s Creed Shadowsand the Last Rites Story Add-on Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Now another long-term publisher needs his experience. Ubisoft Bordeaux is one of the support teams behind Beyond Good and Evil 2, and the main development team has traditionally been Ubisoft Montpellier.
The story of the game itself has long been one of the most unusual production sagas in the industry. Beyond Good and Evil 2 first launched in 2008, and it all but disappeared from the information landscape in the years since. It wasn’t until E3 2017 that Ubisoft showed off the project again – and that’s when the public first got a fairly detailed look at its new direction. The game is positioned as a prequel to the original beyond good and evil and should provide a larger open world.
After the re-announcement, development continued for many years, changing pace and direction multiple times. Because of this, Beyond Good and Evil 2 transcends Duke Nukem Forever Calculated based on development duration, starting from the moment the project is initially announced. Meanwhile, Ubisoft itself continues to regularly confirm that the game has not been cancelled. In 2024, the publisher even added a special story mission to the 20th Anniversary Edition of Beyond Good and Evil, tying the original game to future prequels.

The situation in early 2026 looks even more unexpected. Amid Ubisoft’s massive restructuring, the company has shut down or canceled multiple projects, so Beyond Good and Evil 2 has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for discontinuation. However, creative director Fawzi Mesmar has publicly stated that his team and Part II itself were not affected by the changes. He emphasized that the developers will continue to work hard and intend to launch the game.
Therefore, the emergence of Godwin becomes the second clear evidence that the plan is not frozen in 2026. In addition, Ubisoft has previously announced job vacancies for experts related to “Beyond Good and Evil 2”, which also shows that the development of the game is in progress. However, all these signals haven’t been accompanied by the main answer fans have been waiting for: when exactly they will see the game in its full form.

Currently, Beyond Good & Evil 2 still doesn’t have a release date, or even an approximate release window. Ubisoft hasn’t shown off a new version of the game since its previous major demo, so it’s unknown how different the current project will be from the version the company launched a few years ago.
