The AM4 platform has been around for nearly nine years and is still being updated. Motherboard manufacturers have started releasing new BIOS versions for older models based on the A320 chipset and the latest AMD AGESA ComboV2 PI 1.2.0.12 microcode. For example, ASUS updated the PRIME A320M-A, and ASRock released similar firmware for multiple A320 motherboards at the same time.
This update not only improves compatibility, but also fixes discovered fTPM vulnerabilities. For PRIME A320M-A, firmware version 6265 also fixes two vulnerabilities – CVE-2026-6726 and CVE-2026-6727. Meanwhile, support for older motherboards continues despite their initial budget status and very limited functionality compared to more expensive AM4 solutions.
The cost of modern parts also plays a role. Due to the higher price of DDR5, older DDR4 systems remain attractive for budget builds and upgrades. AMD continues to release new processors for AM4, including the Ryzen 5 5500F, which is based on the Zen 3 architecture, allowing owners of older systems to upgrade their processors without having to switch to the new platform.
