Thieves stole two trucks with Nvidia logos – and instead of graphics cards, they found 18 tons of sand inside

Two trailers bearing the PlusAI and Nvidia logos were stolen from PlusAI’s warehouse, but were later found abandoned along with all the cargo in Newark, California. PlusAI uses these trailers for R&D, so they are filled with the cheapest possible ballast – regular sand. One can only guess how disappointed the kidnappers were at this fact.

Nvidia and PlusAI are working together to develop autonomous truck software. “PlusAI uses simulated loads in its trailers for research and development.”The relevant person in charge of Zhijia Technology explained that these high-tech trucks themselves were parked in the company’s warehouse, and the trailers were placed in open areas and were stolen by unfortunate thieves. The case is currently under investigation and police have not announced the arrest of any suspects.

The incident comes amid an increase in thefts of high-value computer equipment, particularly chips and other electronic equipment used in data centers. In August, a successful attack on a vehicle carrying such expensive equipment was reported. Police were unable to locate the stolen truck or stolen equipment.

This year, thieves have also shown increased interest in Tesla batteries and mining equipment. In some cases, authorities arrested suspects, but many crimes remain unsolved. Metals, enterprise computers and networking equipment have been the most common targets of cargo theft in the United States in recent months, according to risk assessment firm Verisk CargoNet.
