Yesterday, when Honor released the Magic 9 series of smartphones (Magic 9, Magic 9 Super Edition, Magic 9 Pro Max), it also launched the compact Honor Life S3 reader with an electronic ink (E-Ink) screen. This is a small device with a 3.68-inch display that magnetically attaches to the back of a smartphone. Its price is 399 yuan ($60).

Honor calls the S3 a “mini book” that can easily fit in your pocket. The machine weighs only 61 grams and is 5.6 mm thick. Due to its compact size, it is comfortable to hold with one hand without excessive force, even during long reading periods.
The device comes with a 3.68-inch e-ink display with soft backlight and a pixel density of 259 PPI. The screen is protected by a high-transparency frosted glass panel, creating the feeling of reading on paper. The device has an eye protection function (soft glow) to reduce eye fatigue when reading for long periods of time. There are no physical buttons on the reader body – control is via a touch screen. One of the extraordinary features of the S3 is the magnetic mounting system. Thanks to built-in magnets, the card reader easily attaches to the back panel of a compatible smartphone. The device is so thin that it almost fits the phone, making it easy to carry them together without creating extra bulk.
This reader can work for up to 30 hours in continuous reading mode and can last a week on a charge under normal use.
The software part of S3 is based on the RTOS operating system and provides access to a library of more than 700,000 books. The device supports wireless transfer of books through the Honor Smart Space app and supports popular electronic publication formats. For data storage, TF memory cards (microSD) with capacities up to 1 TB are supported.
The Honor S3, priced at 399 yuan, is a good choice for those who like to read during short breaks or on the go, but don’t want to carry around a full-size e-reader. It’s compact and lightweight, has a magnetic holder that makes it easy to carry with your phone, and its e-ink display serves as an alternative to reading smartphone screens.
