Modern car enthusiasts can hardly be surprised by how safe and durable cars are designed: after all, almost all of them are heavily regulated, and any new car has to withstand significant impacts during testing. Acting is in vogue these days, this is Toyota Decided to make arrangements.
The Japanese carmaker used a new Toyota Hilux electric pick-up truck as the test subject and a 760kg road trip trailer as the projectile. The projectile landed directly on the roof of the Hilux from a height of 9 meters. As a result, the car retained the ability to move and, judging from the published footage, was not even seriously damaged in the impact area.
Arguably, Toyota chose this type of demonstration test based on worker demand: through a public vote by the manufacturer itself. The choice of this particular test was no accident: back in 2003, the makers of the Top Gear project had implemented a similar trick on a then-current version of the Hilux pick-up truck. At that time, everyone was delighted with the strength of the car body.
