The first major scandal erupted surrounding the financial issues surrounding the long-awaited World of Warcraft: Forever project. During an ongoing beta test, players noticed a suspiciously wealthy content creator and Twitch streamer named Ziqo, who managed to accumulate around 380 gold coins – the equivalent of around $200 on the questionable website.
The community immediately accused the streamer of using real money (RMT) to buy gold and demanded that Blizzard strictly ban it. The developers promised to keep a close eye on the economics of the project, but they weren’t made to wait. Later, Ziqo himself confirmed on the spot that the developer had carried out a clean-up operation, leaving only a measly nine pieces of silver for his hero.
While some players insist on permanently banning violators, the swift withdrawal shows that Blizzard is indeed interested in keeping the economy clean forever Under strict control.
