Metro: Redux: Free next-gen upgrade coming soon to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Metro: Definitive Edition and Metro: Last Light Definitive Edition are optimized for newer consoles. After a leak, the next-gen upgrade has now been officially announced.

Rumors have been circulating due to the age classification, and now it’s official: the two shooter parts of Metro 2033: Definitive Edition and Metro: Last Light Definitive Edition will once again be modified and optimized specifically for the newer consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. PC gamers also benefit.

4A Games plans to release corresponding upgrades for both games on PC on October 22, and on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 29. The release will come as a free update to existing game owners.

As part of the upgrade, you can expect improved animations, higher-quality sounds, more detailed environments, improved textures, and refined lighting and shadow effects. The consoles will offer true 4K at 60 fps or upscaled 4K at 120 fps. Platform-specific support includes PSSR on PS5 Pro and TSR scaling and anti-aliasing on Xbox Series X. There’s also spatial audio, support for Xbox Handheld and Xbox Play Anywhere, as well as adaptive triggers for the DualSense controller and pulse triggers for the Xbox controller.

On PC, it has 4K resolution and unlimited frame rates, with support for DLSS and spatial audio. In addition, various bug fixes and usability improvements will be included on all platforms.
