Naughty Dog is said to have actually started working on a new installment of the action series behind the scenes. There were hints of this last year, when the director posted a photo suggesting he was scouting new filming locations.
It’s been 10 years since Nathan Drake’s final adventure was released. That year, the protagonist’s journey ended with “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End”. Now, according to a new report, there may actually be a comeback.
While Naughty Dog is currently hard at work on finishing Star Effect: Prophets of Heretic, early preliminary work on two projects in the The Last of Us universe was also recently confirmed. Naughty Dog has begun work on a new Uncharted game, a person familiar with the matter was quoted as saying. According to sources, Nathan Drake will also reappear in some form, even though the protagonist at the end of Uncharted 4 is now older and has a child. It’s unclear whether the game series’ longtime protagonist will return in playable form or just make a cameo in a supporting role.
What’s clear, however, is that this is a brand new Uncharted game, not just a remaster of an earlier game. There have been corresponding rumors in the past that Naughty Dog is developing a new version of the first installment, but that’s clearly not the case with the project currently underway.
