Let’s remember that in June, The Information quoted three sources as saying that Microsoft was considering multiple options for developing Xbox, including selling and reorganizing into a fully owned subsidiary.
“Xbox is not for sale. We’re going to do whatever it takes to make the company successful. We’re going to find the right partners, the right operating model and everything we need to make that happen.”“Sharma promises.
Analysts said a standalone Xbox could form a strategic partnership with Microsoft to help the parent company maintain its technological edge without dragging down its financial performance.
Microsoft executives pointed out that rumors about the possible sale of Xbox have been circulating for a long time, but the matter never progressed further: “Our partnership with Microsoft has a long way to go and we are focused on the long term.”.
The New York Times article also mentioned that the budget agreed upon with Kojima Productions for the innovative espionage action game Physint is significantly lower than what Xbox typically spends on developing AAA games.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at a recent conference podcast said he expects Xbox to return to growth in the next fiscal year. In this regard, the gaming sector is undergoing a massive restructuring.
