A bad example is contagious: Google follows Samsung and starts raising smartphone prices

Google has raised the price of its mid-range smartphone Pixel 10a by $100 to $599 for the base configuration, released seven months ago. This is another example of how rising memory costs can impact the prices of previously released devices. The day before, Samsung announced an increase in smartphone prices.

Currently, the base model Pixel 10a with 128GB of internal storage is priced at $599, while the model with 256GB of storage is priced at $699. The latest prices for the Pixel 10a have been listed on the websites of retailers Amazon and Best Buy, and on the Google Store, the Pixel 10a smartphone is currently selling for $849 Canadian in Canada, £599 in the UK and €649 in Europe.

Last month, Google lowered the price of the Pixel 10a to $424. When Google launched its Pixel 11 series of smartphones earlier this year, the prices increased by $100 compared to the previous generation. But the subsequent increase did not affect the cost of Pixel 10a. Now, apparently the company has received a batch of new devices with memory at a higher price.

As the resource points out Android CenterThe price increase is especially hard to swallow since the Pixel 10a itself remains virtually unchanged from last year’s Pixel 9a. Specifically, it uses the same Tensor G4 processor first launched in the 2024 Pixel 9 series.
