The Nvidia Shield TV top box has become a popular device, even though the manufacturer has never released any new versions. But amid a bleak situation for the entire tech industry, the price of the Nvidia Shield TV Pro has increased by $100, seven years after its release, to $299.

The Nvidia Shield TV Pro debuted in October 2019 and remains one of the most powerful and capable Android TV streaming devices to date. In some ways, the set-top box is outdated: it doesn’t support the AV1 codec, for example, but in other ways it’s unmatched. This is largely why Nvidia still makes the device today.
But the $199 price tag is a thing of the past—now you have to pay $299.99 for the Nvidia Shield TV Pro. The company’s explanation for the price increase is: “Across the industry, component costs, including memory, have increased significantly”. Along with the price change, Nvidia has discontinued the base version of the Shield TV, also launched in 2019; the mobile version has been out of stock for months. The company has committed to maintaining software support for Shield TV for the foreseeable future.
The Nvidia Shield TV isn’t the only streaming device to see a price increase recently: the Google TV Streamer, several Roku models, and the Apple TV 4K have all seen price hikes before.
