Delaying a new generation: Former PlayStation boss calls on Sony and Nintendo not to release PS6 and Switch 3 if possible

Former PlayStation senior executive Shuhei Yoshida said in a recent interview that Sony and Nintendo should keep current-generation consoles on the market as long as possible. In his view, due to the rapid increase in parts costs and the general increase in device prices, the release of mature successors to PS5 and Switch 2 will inevitably be delayed, and there is no urgent need for this.

Yoshida noted that both companies have sold enough of the devices that users of modern systems and powerful PCs feel quite comfortable and are unlikely to rush out to buy a new console with unlimited budgets. In the context of rising hardware prices, the industry may permanently set the current generation as the base generation for most gamers.
