Sony is in final negotiations to acquire the film rights to the hit Battlefield shooter series. According to a new report from Variety, Christopher McQuarrie, known for “Top Gun: Maverick” and the latest installment in the “Mission: Impossible” series, will serve as director and screenwriter, while Michael B. Jordan will serve as producer and may star.
The project is expected to be one of the biggest live-action movie releases: Major Hollywood studios including Warner Bros., Amazon, Universal Pictures and Netflix are vying for the rights to adapt it. Meanwhile, rival Activision is preparing a feature film based on the Call of Duty universe, so audiences will see a massive confrontation between the two military franchises in theaters.
