Microsoft’s event is scheduled for October 7 and will focus on Windows, Surface PCs, and the Nvidia RTX Spark platform. The company plans to discuss new opportunities for developers and content authors. The briefing may also reveal how much the Surface Laptop Ultra will cost and when it will be available, but that hasn’t been announced yet.

“Save the date: October 7 at 10:00 AM PT (8:00 PM Moscow time). Windows. Surface. Nvidia RTX Spark. Come see what happens next.”,— wrote Official Windows account on social network X. The broadcast description on YouTube promises to showcase the platform’s new features, including RTX Spark. Microsoft has yet to reveal a specific list of announcements.

The company first announced the upcoming event in September, when both the Surface Laptop Ultra and Nvidia RTX Spark were already known. Now we might talk about the innovations in Windows that will make RTX Spark a useful tool for developers and content creators working with native artificial intelligence and agents. The company has not confirmed the release of new versions of Windows, including Windows 12.

Launched in May, the Surface Laptop Ultra is Microsoft’s most powerful laptop yet. It is equipped with an Nvidia RTX Spark processor and supports up to 128 GB of unified memory. Claimed peak AI performance reaches 1 Pflops on FP4 compute using sparsity – this does not represent speed for all applications. The company has promised to release the laptop in the fall, but the exact date and price are still unknown.

Even in its May announcement, Microsoft talked about improving Windows for RTX Spark. One area is tools for safely launching local AI agents. Operating system mechanisms allow you to restrict their access to files and network resources, and the Nvidia OpenShell runtime complements them with rules to control the agent’s operation. This should reduce the risk when performing tasks on the user’s computer, although it does not by itself guarantee complete security.

The second direction is to optimize the distribution of computing tasks and use unified memory. Microsoft has implemented the Workload Profile Scheduling mechanism to adapt to the 20 cores of the old version of RTX Spark. The company has also increased the amount of system memory available to GPUs so that these PCs can run larger artificial intelligence models and handle complex projects.

The third direction is the improvement of the Prism simulator for the RTX Spark microarchitecture. It allows you to run x86 and x64 applications on Arm processors. However, emulation support does not mean compatibility with all Windows software: programs that require special drivers need to be adapted individually.

The event may also showcase the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box and reveal more details about it. Microsoft launched the developer’s small PC in June. It comes with RTX Spark, 128 GB of unified memory, and Windows 11 with development tools pre-installed; it’s promised for a U.S. release before the end of the year.

Therefore, the October demonstration can tie the already released hardware to the new Windows software features and clarify its plans to go to market. Which devices and features will be showcased will be revealed on October 7th.
