The legendary Windows XP era finally seems to be history, but enthusiasts continue to accomplish the impossible. Ten years after the release of the Pascal architecture, modders have released the unofficial Forceware 382.69 driver, which adds full support for GeForce GTX 10 graphics cards on Windows XP. The list of compatible models includes all the popular favorites – from the budget GTX 1050 to the flagship GTX 1080 Ti, TITAN X, and even the terrifying TITAN Xp, whose name seems to have been originally created for the operating system.
As a basis, the developers used an old official NVIDIA package version 368.81 from 2016, in which driver-level support for “green” cards ended in the Maxwell generation. The first brave ones have already been field tested – the combination of a GTX 1080 Ti and a modern Threadripper 7970X processor on Windows XP started working 3D acceleration, the native NVIDIA control panel, and it didn’t even stop us from selecting 144 Hz at 3840×1080 resolution. There are still some rough edges – the community has noticed some issues with the operation of PhysX, OpenGL and OpenCL.
