Microsoft launched Xbox Project Helix this year, but has not yet revealed when it will be released. Previously, Xbox executives pointed out that component issues due to memory and storage shortages will affect the cost of future devices. But there’s no word yet on how much of an impact this will have on Project Helix, or when the console will finally be released.

Micron, one of Xbox’s main memory suppliers, said this week that it expects memory demand to exceed supply until at least 2027 and 2028. Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra talked about this during the company’s fiscal 2026 earnings call. He said the memory supply situation will become even tighter, and shortages in 2027 and 2028 may be worse than in 2026.

In 2027 and 2028, we see demand exceeding supply. In fact, the industrial situation in 2027 and 2028 will be more tense than in 2026. Overall, the balance between supply and demand is becoming increasingly complex.

Mehrotra also noted that the company does not yet know when supply and demand will return to balance. This means that DRAM prices will remain high during Microsoft’s planned launch of Project Helix, whether in 2027 or 2028.

It’s worth noting that the exact component suppliers for Project Helix are not yet known, but Microsoft has been working with Micron for several years. Previously, Asha Sharma talked about how Xbox plans to reduce the cost of its next-generation console.
