As we warned at the end of last year, the NAND Flash chips that give life to SSD storage increased in price very significantly, which of course led to a new price increase. This is something that is already becoming apparent in the market, and of course, it will only get worse in the coming months.
More expensive SSD storage… It’s started!
So, if you’ve been eyeing an SSD for a few weeks, it’s a good idea to compare last year’s prices with 2024 prices. You’ll notice that things increase by a few euros.
In short, if you want a 500GB SSD, you will find increases of around €10~20. However, if you prefer a 1TB SSD, you will find slightly more significant increases, around €40. If you want more capacity, that is, 2TB, you will find increases between €50 and €60.
Basically, the more capacity you want, the greater the increase. However, obviously, not all SSDs are the same. We have PCIe 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0 models, each with their own performance levels. Price fluctuations will depend on several factors.
But one thing is certain, despite the fact that the best time to buy has already passed (Black Friday), prices will only continue to increase in the coming months. So, if you really need more storage, there’s nothing better than finding a good opportunity (they still exist!) to simply say goodbye to your money.
First of all, what do you think about all this? Have you noticed the increases yet? It’s normal? Or is it pure exploitation of the industry after a period of very significant declines. In case you didn’t know, these increases come after several months in which the main figures in chip production decided to cut production by almost half. The idea was to eliminate warehouse stock, while investing in technology with higher margins. The result is in sight.
