The information revealed by Krafton on the live service nature of the new chapter of Subnautica has fueled a heated discussion among fans of survival experiences, so much so as to induce the Unknown Worlds team to correct what was declared by the publisher.
The San Francisco development house has in fact decided to publish a note on the pages of its official website to specify that the next, awaited chapter of Subnautica it will not be a live service game strictly speaking, but will fall within the broader definition of GaaS cited in the Krafton report due to the long post-launch support promised by the Unknown Worlds team, along the lines of what was done with the first episode of Subnautica.
“Think of that reference to ‘Games-as-a-Service’ as our usual Early Access development model, but expanded and enriched with content. And without battle passes, season stages or subscriptions“, explain the guys from Unknown Worlds before going into the merits of the other, major theme debated by the community, namely the presence of the online cooperative.
US developers report that “the game will not focus on multiplayer. The cooperative mode will be completely optional, you will be able to enjoy all the contents of the new Subnautica in singleplayer.”
Also from the Californian team comes the clarification on the launch window of the Early Access phase: “Early Access is not scheduled to launch in 2024but we plan to share a lot of information about the new Subnautica later this year.”
