With Death Stranding 2: On the Beach coming out next year and Kojima Productions starting production on the new spy action game Physint around the same time, Hideo Kojima and his studio already have a lot on their plate – but there’s more to come. A horror OD is in development, created in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, in which, as it became known at The Game Awards in December, famous American actor and director Jordan Peele will collaborate with Kojima.
But how exactly will Peele get involved in the project? During an episode of his YouTube show HideoTube, Kojima talked about this in more detail.
We met on my podcast and found out that we were mutual fans of each other. Since then we have met several times. We talked about how we wanted to work together and he was going to do OD.
While Kojima didn’t explain in what capacity Peele would be involved, he did confirm that he wouldn’t be playing a character in the game, but would rather “take a creative role.”
“No, it’s not,” Kojima said when asked if Peele would appear in the game itself. “He’ll be involved in the creative process. I’ll get in trouble if I say anything else.”
Interestingly, Peele isn’t the only big-name star who will be collaborating with Kojima on OD in a similar capacity. Kojima says that “other people like him” are also working on the game. While he can’t yet reveal their names, he says they’re known internally as the “Avengers.”
We actually call them the Avengers, but we have other members just like him. “If I announced the names, you would be surprised. We have a list of participants that we are negotiating with. But everything is not decided yet. When we reveal these names, my name will be completely forgotten. You will be shocked, like ‘what the hell?’ “When I show this list to agents and managers, they can’t believe it’s true. They say, ‘How did you manage to get all these people who don’t listen to anyone anymore?’
However, further details about what to expect from OD will remain scarce for some time, although Kojima confirmed that new information about the horror title will be revealed “gradually.” However, Kojima Productions has filed trademarks for Social Scream System and Social Stealth, which could indicate that the game will feature multiplayer elements similar to Death Stranding (which, of course, uses the so-called Social Strand System).
During the broadcast on HideoTube, Kojima also talked about why he decided to return to the stealth genre with Physint, and also revealed new details about Death Stranding 2, its setting and some new gameplay mechanics.
