Palworld has shot up from nothing into the highest spheres, but the initial hype has now noticeably died down. Nevertheless: The number of players in the survival title remains high overall.
The open-world survival game Palworld caused a stir in many ways with its early access launch. It caused a stir because some of the Pals are very similar to well-known Pokémon and it is still unclear whether and to what extent Nintendo and The Pokémon Company will take legal action. For a sensation, because the players literally came in droves and a real hype arose around the game.
At its peak, more than 2.1 million gamers played Palworld at the same time on Steam. That’s enough for second place in Steam history in this category, only having to admit defeat to PUBG: Battlegrounds. Other blockbusters like Counter-Strike 2 were left behind in this regard.
However, this rush has now noticeably subsided. In the past 24 hours, the maximum number of simultaneous players on Steam was 574,423 gamers – and in the last few days there have been fewer and fewer on the way there. So is the Palworld hype over? You can’t quite say that!
In the end, it is normal for player numbers to decline after such an immensely successful start as Palworld has had. And yet the title remains one of the most successful on Steam at the moment. According to Steam, Palworld is still in third place in terms of best-selling games and in fourth place in the category of most simultaneous players. Even in the latter category, it is currently further ahead of long-running favorites such as Counter-Strike 2 or Dota 2.
Since the title is still in its early stages and is still in early access, it is now important to bring sustainability to the number of players. With the roadmap that has already been published, which includes numerous major features, many players can be retained or new ones can be acquired in the future.
