Tom Henderson is known for his reliable predictions: he has talked about the release of a smaller PlayStation 5 and has repeatedly shared Call of Duty leaks. This time, the insider decided to speak out about the future of the gaming industry, based solely on his own opinion.
Henderson’s predictions are for the next generation of consoles, which may not appear until 2028. Insider believes, that then consoles will become exclusively “digital”, and physical copies of games will completely disappear. At the same time, the insider expects the appearance of portable devices for full-fledged gaming in the model line of PlayStation and Xbox.
Henderson thinks $100 will become standard for games in the next generation. When the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series launched, publishers announced that the new standard price would be $70 for the base edition. At the same time, relatively small publishers will begin to focus on established franchises, and timed exclusivity or exclusive bonuses for specific platforms will become a more common practice.
Of course, ordinary users were not happy with such forecasts and joked that future games at discounts will cost more than current releases are currently sold at full price. Henderson himself believes that many people do not understand the current situation – inflation and other factors are gradually leading the industry to what the insider predicts.
