Sony also brought along the first pair of glassesAstro Bot Rescue Mission delivered a top-class platformer. Unfortunately, like all other in-house titles, this one was unable to make the jump to PS VR2. Current representatives of the genre are also sparse in other ways – fortunately there is now a successful new entry.
Ven VR Adventure was originally released for the Quest glasses at the end of 2020, but fortunately the 3D jumper hardly shows its age. The colorful look looks contemporary with a pleasantly high resolution and frame rate, of course this is also due to the chosen style: it relies on a mix (not just graphically). Crash Bandicoot, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger and No the Kangaroo – a little staid, but presented in a harmonious and chic way. The influences of what was mentioned at the beginning are also playful Astro Bot unmistakable, complemented by a pinch Moss: Most of the time you control the somewhat leisurely trotting Ven directly through twelve linear 3D levels full of enemies and traps and basically follow him as a cameraman. You can use the right stick to turn the view sideways to get a better view of your protégé; occasionally you can actively intervene in the action, for example in boss fights.
Everything plays out smoothly, with the exception of jumps that are sometimes difficult to assess, and it becomes quite demanding halfway through the 4 to 5 hour long campaign.
