A Qualcomm can manufacture its chips again with Samsung after the fiasco seen with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. A new rumor suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 platform may have units produced by the South Korean company and not by TSMC.
The unofficial information indicates that the chips for the “For Galaxy” version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which are expected to be used in the high-end Galaxy S26 series of smartphones, will also be manufactured by Samsung in agreement with Qualcomm.
It is worth mentioning that, in the last two years, Qualcomm launched two versions of its main chip: regular and “For Galaxy”. The variants for Samsung have higher CPU and GPU clock speeds, bringing greater performance to the devices.
For the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Qualcomm must use TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process (N3E), which promises to offer greater energy efficiency and better performance compared to the first generation (N3/N3B), used in the Apple A17 chip. Pro.
The rumor also pointed out that Qualcomm analyzed Samsung Foundry’s 3nm (3GAP) process, but decided to go exclusively with TSMC for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. As for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, both companies can manufacture the chips.
It is also important to mention that other rumors pointed out that Qualcomm tasked Samsung Foundry and TSMC with manufacturing 2nm chip prototypes. Apparently, this test version is for a future Snapdragon 8 Gen series processor.
