February 16, 2024 at 7:00 a.m. – Anyone who plays Diablo knows that a large part of the game revolves around the vigorous and persistent farming of loot – including Diablo 4. A lively debate has once again sparked exactly this on Reddit. More precisely, a user longs for the simplicity of Diablo 2 – numerous reactions quickly follow.
Diablo has once again managed to spark a heated discussion on the perfect platform – who would have thought – Reddit! More specifically, a user sheds some critical light on Diablo 4’s loot system and also draws comparisons to a classic.”Diablo 2 did it better”.
He gave vent to his frustration by comparing farming items in Diablo 4 (buy now €91.68) to a tedious full-time job. In Diablo 2, however, the process was quick and satisfying. The focus of his criticism is the numerous unnecessary intermediate steps that are necessary to get loot and the excessive complexity of the entire loot system in Diablo 4 – a real dopamine brake!

What does the community think? Nostalgia vs. reality
While some community members clearly share the criticism and even go further, others see the “fact” rather critically. It’s not uncommon for people to be blinded by nostalgia and quickly forget that Diablo 2 also had its shortcomings – especially the virtually non-existent endgame and the very small number of playable builds.

Accordingly, the accusation of bias because of nostalgia is brought into play again and again. Similar discussions develop in numerous World of Warcraft forums when the classic “Retail vs. Classic” comes up again. There can certainly be heated debates, as the past has shown – but in principle the Diablo 4 community seems to be in agreement.
All in all, the basic attitude towards Diablo 4 remains positive. Many Reddit users emphasize that the game is still fun and has some strengths – despite any shortcomings. But let’s be honest: every game has its advantages and disadvantages! It is all the better when there is a lively community that is able to recognize both sides – the discussion has once again impressively proven this.
What do you think about Diablo 4’s loot system? Do you also think it’s too complex, or don’t you understand what all the fuss is about?
