The OnePlus 12R recently hit the US market at an eye-watering $599.99, promising some impressive hardware for the money. The company has also highlighted the 256GB phone, presenting it as featuring the faster UFS 4.0 standard. However, after conducting a series of tests, it became clear that OnePlus was misinforming its customers by installing slower UFS 3.1 memory. To compensate for false advertising, the smartphone manufacturer has decided to compensate all buyers of the 256 GB variant.
OnePlus President and COO Kinder Liu provided additional information on the company’s community page. This comes after he publicly apologized for falsely advertising the OnePlus 12R and decided to compensate customers.
However, this offer is not open-ended: Refunds for the 256GB variant will only be available until March 16th. Thus, buyers have about a month to take advantage of this opportunity. Despite the advertising errors, the OnePlus 12R with 256GB of storage is still an attractive proposition, especially considering its price, as well as the inclusion of 16GB of RAM and the previous generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
OnePlus’ marketing team will likely be more careful and avoid similar mistakes in the future. However, if such situations occur again, additional checks will be carried out to confirm the accuracy of the statements.
