Today, data has emerged regarding the first box office of the film Madame Web, which started showing on February 14.
As expected, the film was a complete failure: the first weekend grossed $17.6 million, and the 6-day holiday weekend grossed $25.8 million. The same Morbius, which up to this point was the most disastrous film Sony according to comics, at one time it collected $39.1 million in three days.
Apparently, Sony will not even be able to recoup the film’s budget: it was $80 million and, accordingly, for the film to break even, the film must collect at least $160-180 million (since cinemas take a commission on box office receipts of around 50%, and sometimes even more), which is unlikely will happen.
The film received terrible reviews from both viewers and critics: Rotten Tomatoes The film’s rating among critics was 13%, among viewers – 54%, so the film cannot count on word of mouth.
