Smart rings could be the next big thing, especially if some of the biggest technology companies in the world embrace the concept. Samsung has already done so with the unveiling of the Galaxy Ring and its rival Apple could soon follow in its footsteps.
This is the thesis posed by the latest piece from the Korean publication ET News. Citing sources linked to the industry, Apple will be one of the next companies to enter this new market niche.
Considering the various patents that the North American company has submitted in recent years, it seems inevitable that it will launch its own wearable of this kind. The source in question states: “As Apple has released patents related to smart rings for years, it appears that pre-development for commercialization is imminent.”
Galaxy Ring may have pressured Apple to move forward with its smart ring
If there were any doubts about the influence that the Galaxy Ring announcement would have on the market, this rumor is proof of that. Apparently, the presentation of Samsung's smart ring will have pressured Apple to move forward with the development of the hypothetical “Apple Ring”.
As on several other occasions, Apple will not want to fall behind its biggest rival. However, this does not mean that the “Apple Ring” will be announced in the coming months, as the American technology company does not usually rush the development of its products without them meeting its quality standards.
Regarding what Apple's smart ring will have to offer, few doubt that it will integrate several features related to users' health. The prominent place that the Apple Watch has enjoyed over the years will certainly also be applied to this new wearable.
The patents submitted by Apple provide some clues about what the “Apple Ring” could offer. One of the latest claims that this ring will be able to use NFC to control a smartphone or tablet.
There is also another patent, a little older, that shows the concept of a smart ring with a touch screen. This could be used for the iPhone or iPad.
Smart rings are a fairly recent gadget on the market and we still don't know their full potential. With the likely launch of the Galaxy Ring in July, it will be possible to have a more concrete idea of where these products will stand out.
