With “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” we can expect the first major softening of Indiana Jones since the release of “LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues” in 2011 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC at the end of the year. Now Hal Barwood, one of the developers who worked on what is probably still the most popular video game adaptation of the whip-wielding archaeologist in the early 90s – “Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis” – has spoken out.
In a conversation with his colleagues from Time Extension, he commented on the topic of the prevailing enemy images in the Indiana Jones games. According to him, not only the games but also the films could almost be described as stereotyped due to the content and the images of enemies depicted, especially the Nazis. As a counter-example, he cited the video game “Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine,” which he directed, in which Indy is confronted by henchmen of the Soviet Union over the course of the game. Later titles, however, returned to the National Socialists as enemy images.
In “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” the players once again have to deal with the brown socks of the German Empire. However, unlike previous games, here we will control Indy through the area from a first-person perspective.
