February 20, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. – First some Fallout classics were announced as free games of the week for the Epic Games Store, then the offer suddenly disappeared. Now we know the reason: those responsible at Bethesda want to sell you a new special anthology in April.
Yesterday, February 19, 2024, we asked ourselves, why Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel suddenly won't be available for free in the Epic Games Store. After all, one would think that there was an agreement between Epic and Bethesda before the games were announced. From February 22, 2024, “only” Super Meat Boy Forever will lure us into the store (or not).

Why give it away when you can sell it?
Now it's clear: The Bethesda decision-makers would rather make the three classics and other parts of the Fallout franchise appealing to you in a different way that is more beneficial for sales, namely in the form of a new SPECIAL anthology, which will be released on April 11, 2024 becomes. The official announcement states:
“Just in time for the release of Amazon Prime's highly anticipated new Fallout series, we are releasing the Fallout SPECIAL anthology with seven fantastic Fallout games on April 11th. Pre-order now!
Source: Bethesda The new special anthology for Fallout will be released in April 2024. Experience the award-winning role-playing game series from part 1, which first caused a stir in 1997, and go through a crash course on surviving in the wasteland – regardless of whether your Fallout game is from Bethesda Studios have just gotten to know you or have climbed out of the vault several times.
Inspired by the skill cards in Fallout 76, the Fallout SPECIAL Anthology contains seven trading cards that are stored in a miniature bomb (the painted mini nuke is defused, but can make an explosion sound!). On these SPECIAL cards, the fan-favorite Vault-Tec Vault Boy uses all of his Charisma points to show what skills, from pure strength to pure luck, it takes to be an exceptional Vault Dweller.”

On each of the seven cards you will find a PC code that you can use to activate the following games:

Cost of the anthology: 60 euros. What we're now asking ourselves is: Why was the free offer in the Epic Games Store created in the first place? Had Bethesda officials forgotten the deal? Did it just occur to someone recently that the upcoming launch of the Amazon series should be linked to a special Fallout offering – and then this anthology was designed in record time? In any case, Bethesda cuts a somewhat unfortunate figure with the chaos.
