At the time when PlayStation Portal was about to be launched, several leaks and rumors immediately pointed to hardware incapable of running applications, or games, locally.
In other words, even if it were possible to trick the software into running other types of programs, the power wasn't there!
Well… Surprise!
PlayStation Portal has already been hacked!
Therefore, Sony's €219 portable console, which in essence is nothing more than a streaming device masquerading as a console, is already capable of running pirated software, and as such, is already capable of running games that it supposedly couldn't run.
More specifically, two Google engineers were able to run games locally, from a PPSSPP emulator.
In other words, PlayStation Portal is capable of playing some titles from the old PSP, without the help of Sony servers, as is the case with Grand Theft Auto 3, a game that is quite demanding for the hardware of the old Sony PlayStation portable console.
So, all this means that in addition to PSP games, there is also the possibility of installing and running other types of apps, such as Game Boy, NES emulators, etc… However, those responsible for the project do not talk about release dates, and state that There is still a lot of work to be done.
Well… However long it takes, it's extremely interesting to see that there is extra potential in Portal, beyond just being a companion device to the PS5. €219 now seems more appealing!
