The developers at Crema have announced “Temtem: Swarm,” a new game in their monster series. While some “Temtem” fans are disappointed, the studio's CEO is now giving the reasons for the new title.
The developers at Crema recently announced a new game in their “Temtem” franchise. “Temtem: Swarm” is described as an action roguelike that can be tackled solo or with up to three other players and is scheduled to be released in the third quarter of 2024.
Fans of the MMO “Temtem,” which officially launched in 2022, are dismayed online and are criticizing the apparent realignment of the series. The CEO of Crema, Enrique Paños, spoke about the players' reactions in the game's Discord.
Players would expect endless content for the MMO
In a long message on the Discord channel about “Temtem,” Enrique Paños, also known online as “Kikill0,” addressed the players’ disappointment. The community would expect endless content for “Temtem”, which would not only be time-consuming but also cost-intensive. The game would carry the MMO label, but that didn't mean that the title would continue indefinitely. “Temtem” is also often compared to other MMOs, even if they have a subscription model or are financed with microtransactions. “When we tried to introduce purely cosmetic microtransactions to support ourselves and extend the life of the game, we also received a lot of negative reviews,” said Paños.
“If you really want the Temtem franchise to live on and make more games, be it spinoffs or Temtem 2, then you would really ask that we stop improving Temtem 1 and start working on something new “continues the developer’s CEO. “At the moment we are just improving Temtem 1 for you, even if that never seems to be enough.” The early access development of Temtem also showed the developers “that it is not feasible to continue with updates on this scale”. “Temtem delivered what it promised and then some. I understand that you may not like the end result, but you must understand that it is not possible to create an infinite amount of content or change the fundamentals of the game itself.”
The CEO's statements angered some “Temtem” players, who immediately expressed their displeasure in the game's reviews on Steam. The title currently has a rating of “mostly negative” on Valve’s gaming platform. Only 37 percent of the reviews recently submitted were positive (as of February 23, 2024, 1:80 p.m.). Among other things, the players say that the developers cannot tolerate criticism from the community or would blame the users for the title's shortcomings.
