Warner Bros. Discovery has in its hands the reboot of one of the most successful franchises of all time: Harry Potter. JK Rowling's work marked an entire generation and, after more than a decade since the release of her last film, the company wants to reimagine the Wizarding World through a long-running series.
Several weeks ago we met the great favorite to become showrunner of the series, and now we have been able to know an estimate of when this highly anticipated show will arrive on MAX. Through a conference call that The Hollywood Reporter was able to access, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, confirmed that the series is scheduled to premiere in 2026.
“I was in London a few weeks ago with Casey Bloys (head of HBO and Max) and Channing Dungey (head of television at WBD) and we had a good time with JK and his team. Both parties are delighted to get this franchise back on track “Our conversations were great, and we couldn't be more excited about what's ahead. We can't wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”
Zaslav stated that they are quite enthusiastic about the project. Harry Pottersince the book saga has gone 12 years without a new adaptation on the big screen and they are eager to see what the series has in store for them, which aims to be much more precise in terms of details and much more faithful to the story original.
The development of this project began in early 2021, when Warner met again with several screenwriters and writers to begin working on a very ambitious project. It was not until 2023 when the company finally revealed that they will adapt all the books through a series that hopes to last up to 10 seasons.
