What's better than finding the classic white and red mushroom Super Mario Bros.? Coming across the white and green that allows us to get one more life for the mustachioed plumber, but we well know that his appearance is very sporadic throughout the adventures of the franchise. Even more if we let it random Magikoopas.
Magical enemies appeared for the first time back in 1992 with the launch of Super Mario World for the SNES in Europe and their peculiarity was that they were capable of transforming blocks into different elements. His spells were lethal to the protagonist, but there was a small range of possibilities for the appearance of objects for each magical ray he cast.
There are four appearance options: a yellow Koopa, a Thwomp, a coin and the aforementioned green mushroom, as revealed in Retro Game Mechanics Explained. Having these cards on the table, the probabilities are distributed among 256 as follows:
Chance of 238 in 256 that a Yellow cup (92.9%). 9 in 256 chance of a Thwomp (3.52%). Chance of 8 in 256 that a currency (3.12%). 1 in 256 chance of a green mushroom (0.39%).
Taking into account that Magikoopas are not exactly abundant in Super Mario World and that the natural instinct is to leave their field of action or kill them, there have really been very few players who have managed to see the transformation of a block into a green mushroom. Not to mention the Thwomp or the coin, which also do not enjoy a very high percentage.
