Available for a week, survival game Nightingale has heard player feedback and announced that a feature will be added in the future. Excellent news for solitaire game lovers.
Clearly, the start of 2024 is marked by the release of numerous survival games. If Palworld has been the one that has attracted the most attention, we should not forget Enshrouded which also stood out by recently displaying more than two million players. As if the competition wasn't already tough enough, It was during this period that Nightingale, another survival game with an aesthetic reminiscent of the Victorian era, decided to launch its early access. And following the first feedback from players, the developers at Inflexion Games have excellent news for them.
Good news for solo players!
Since Nightingale is an experience geared towards cooperation, it requires a mandatory internet connection to work. Unfortunately, this choice displeased many players who did not hesitate to let it be known on the game's Steam page. Currently, the average rating is mixed with 60% positive reviews out of the almost 7,000 of posted. Among the main criticisms made of the title, this obligatory internet connection is at the forefront, while the game allows you to play solo in your corner. Faced with these reactions, the developers of Inflexion Games published the following press release:
We've seen a lot of discussion over the past few days around our decision to make Nightingale online-only when it releases in Early Access. We understand that this can be frustrating for a number of reasons.
Our vision for the game from the beginning was to create a series of interconnected realms, with the idea of enabling cooperative exploration – a universe larger than a single realm or server. This means that we had to make a choice early on in development between supporting cooperative mode from day one or focusing development on an offline mode.
Cooperative play combined with having party members in multiple realms was the most technically challenging problem to solve, and so it was the one we chose to tackle first. Looking back on this decision, we misjudged what some of you were looking for in your experience.
We are now prioritizing the development of an offline mode which we plan to launch as soon as possible.
Thus, faced with general discontent, Inflexion Games will add an offline mode to Nightingale. A decision welcomed by many players who complain about this obligation to be constantly connected to the internet to be able to enjoy their game, even when playing solo, which is increasingly widespread in modern video games.
