The deal was worth less than 17 million euros.
Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment bought all rights to the Control series of games from publisher 505 Games. Although the Control games were created by Remedy, 505 Games owned the marketing, distribution and publishing rights to the franchise.
Obtaining these rights cost 505 Games 17 million euros, but Remedy will pay the publisher less: the company's receivables will be deducted. Payments will be divided into 3 parts and will be made over the next 12 months.
Remedy has now acquired all rights to Control 2 and Condor, another game in the same universe. 505 Games will remain Control's publisher until the end of 2024, after which those rights will also be transferred to Remedy.
As Remedy explains, buying back the rights to the franchise will allow the studio to enter into more profitable deals with new partners. In addition, the studio can now make all decisions about the development of the franchise completely independently.
Remedy is still not ready to say when Control 2 and the game codenamed Condor will be released. The company notes that the development of both projects has progressed well.
