March 4th, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. – Dune: Part Two gets off to a brilliant start in cinemas and exceeds even the expectations of the most optimistic experts. Now the magic $1 billion mark is in sight.
After the great success that Dune achieved at the box office two and a half years ago, there was no question that the second part would also be a financial success. How successful the film really is only now became clear.
Because since last Thursday (February 29, 2024) Dune: Part Two (buy now for €34.99) has been officially available in cinemas worldwide… and did a great job on the opening weekend. While sales over the first few days aren't necessarily crucial to the overall result, they do point the way and show how keen audiences are for the film. A good start usually means a good end result – if the quality is right.
In contrast to the last Star Wars, which grossed a similar amount to Dune 2 in the first weekend, but then fell sharply due to poor quality, this is hardly to be expected with Dune. Most critics and viewers so far agree that the second part is a masterpiece.

Dune 2 has its eye on the billion dollars
This is how Dune: Part Two was able to do well on its opening weekend grossed $178.5 million. That's even a chunk more than the most optimistic experts predicted (up to 160 million) and a tiny bit more than Star Wars Episode 9 (177.4 million).
If the success continues, Dune will easily exceed the magic box office threshold of $1 billion. Because thanks to good reviews and the possibility of currently watching the first part on Netflix with a subscription at no additional cost (or on Prime Video for a slim 3.99 euros) and thus whetting your appetite for the second part, the number of viewers should not suddenly drop sharply.
We're excited to see whether Dune: Part Two can advance into the select circle of films that break the magical $1 billion mark or whether it'll run out of steam just before then. Have you already watched Dune 2 and if so, do you agree with the praise or don't you like the film as much as the first part?
