Huawei announced it has signed a global patent cross-licensing agreement with Vivo that covers core patents on cellular standards, including 5G.
Alan Fan, head of Huawei's intellectual property department, noted that the agreement was reached during negotiations that took place in a friendly atmosphere. “This licensing agreement reflects our mutual respect for the value of each other's patents. It also demonstrates that the industry is working together. We collectively invest in fundamental research, strive to standardize and share the fruits of innovation,” he added.
Also today it became known that Amazon and Huawei have entered into a multi-year patent cross-licensing agreement, which puts an end to all ongoing litigation between them. Commenting on the deal, Alan Fan emphasized that patent licensing allows companies to expand their access to technology, allowing them to provide consumers with more innovative products and services.
In turn, Scott Hayden, vice president of IP at Amazon, noted the innovation and contribution of Huawei, which has an international patent portfolio, to the standardization process. “Amazon also respects Huawei's efforts to license its patents to companies like Amazon, which often use industry technical standards when inventing new products and services for customers,” Hayden said.
