“Helldivers 2” is a huge success for Sony and Arrowhead, which has sparked rumors of a takeover. Johan Pilestedt spoke up. And a “big crash” on Steam also turns out to be a bit of a hassle.
In the past few hours, numerous rumors have landed on the Internet. This includes the alleged takeover of Arrowhead by Sony.
The studio, together with Sony Interactive Entertainment, brought the extremely successful “Helldivers 2” onto the market last month, which makes a takeover sound quite plausible.
But there is no truth to the matter, as Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt emphasizes on Twitter.
Arrowhead Game Studios remains independent
Pilestedt referred to independence already in a tweet history, in which a possible Xbox version of “Helldivers 2” was questioned. One user then wrote: “LOL. It was produced by a Sony-owned studio.” The Arrowhead CEO emphasized shortly afterwards: “We don't own it. We are independent!â€
In the past few hours, the takeover rumors have flared up againafter an alleged insider named Haothors made the claim that Arrowhead Game Studios has actually been acquired by Sony and the announcement is coming soon.
Also on this rumor Pilestedt responded and explained: “This is fake… Unless I missed something.â€
The alleged takeover was accompanied by a graphic showing the logos of Arrowhead and PlayStation Studios. Pilestedt didn't seem too keen on the fakery, pointing to a “crappy old logo from 2008 or something, when we were just starting the studio.”
This is fake… Unless I’ve missed something ð¤
Also, a really shitty old logo from 2008 or so when we just started the studio.

The would-be leaker Haothors has circulated further rumors in the past few hours. This includes the claim that “Ghost of Tsushima 2” this year is announced. His account and all tweets contained therein no longer exist, so the information can safely be ignored.

It also says: “There is a new leader on Steam, but for Helldivers 2 there will be a drastic crash.”
However, a look at the Steam charts, which are based on the total sales including expansions of a game, lead to a different conclusion. Worldwide, “Helldivers 2” is behind “Counter-Strike 2”. currently listed at number 2. In Germany it is the first rank.
The “crass crash” on Steam.
There is also the “Super Citizen Edition”, which is listed at number 10 worldwide and number 12 in Germany.
Apparently one serves as the basis for the “big crash”. incorrect XML file, which occasionally only contains seven titles instead of the top 10. After a reload, we will see the complete list (as of March 5, 2024) with “Helldivers 2” at the top. So there was no crash.
