For almost a year, MultiVersus has been in finalizing hibernation after a strong beta, but now there are first signs that the official launch is not far away.
The cross-platform brawler MultiVersus had a strong beta at the time with over 150,000 simultaneous players and supposedly around 20 million downloads, then the game went into oblivion to be completed.
Now things finally seem to be coming back to life, because at least something is happening on the X/Twitter account. A post reading “*taps mic* testing, testing, 1, 2, 3” indicates that the game's social media crew is preparing to return to duty.
This is also confirmed by the fact that the Happy Meal section of the Australian McDonald's website recently announced a promotion with MultiVersus. Both sounds very much like the launch of the game, which was announced for this year, is now finally being prepared.
It will be interesting to see whether interest in the game is still there and as great as it was back then, long after the beta and without any signs of life. Success would be pretty important for publisher Warner after the flop of Suicide Squad this year.
While Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl failed spectacularly in its attempt to reproduce the Smash Bros. formula and thus its success, MultiVersus seems to have a much better chance. The characters from the universes of DC, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry and Game of Thrones combine enormous popularity with the absurdity of direct encounters – this combination also defines Super Smash Bros.
Just another Smash Bros clone? – This is MultiVersus
You can see at first glance that MultiVersus has taken Super Smash Bros. as its model; you could almost call it a copy in a different guise. But that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing.
